Krugersburg 50 Mega Litre Reservoir

Corestruc was part of the professional team tasked with delivering a 50 mega-litre reservoir in Krugersburg ahead of the Soccer World Cup in 2010 on behalf of Polokwane Local Municipality.

Our precast roof structure allowed the main contractor to commit to the onerous year-long contract deadline.

The turnkey contract was undertaken by a professional team comprising contractor, Yarena Civils; civil and structural engineers, VBL Consulting Engineers and Ingerop South Africa; as well as geotechnical engineer, Consult Group Services. The main sub-contractor for all of the pipe work was HH Civils and for waterproofing Yorke Hart Construction Services.

The 5 080 m2 roof structure comprised pre-stressed 250 millimetre (mm)-thick hollow core slabs with a span of 11,4 meter (m) between beam centres.

The roof structure is supported by 50 precast pre-stressed concrete I-beams with a span of 8,4 m between column centres. Beams are supported by pre-stressed pre-cast columns ranging in length of between nine and 11,3 (meter) m.
