Structural engineer, Bigen Africa, introduced then Grinaker-LTA to our pre-cast beam system for the construction of the MTN Switch in Midrand.
The bulk of the 320 metre pre-stressed T-beams required for the project were manufactured by Coreslab and installed by Corestruc in three weeks.
Due to the very congested site and tight construction programme, we installed them in the evening to facilitate better access to site, with our team, including site agent, Meyer van Rooyen, working in the extreme cold to ensure Corestruc delivers on its promise.
Following the casting and re-measuring of the in-situ columns, the beams were re-cut, drilled with dowel holes and then transported to site and installed. This was done in a continuous three-day cycle, allowing sufficient time for the columns to cure, while facilitating rapid installation.
